The fires, believed to have caught first from a defective flue, caused (temaOes of between four and five thousand dpUaiS it was estimat. ed by Ernest Campbell and David Chapman, of the motor company. Nearly all of the damage by fire, smoke and wata was doile to the rear of the building and the 1*001118 and roof of the second floor. It was stated that no cars were in that section of the buildtog*'and that tho\fire did not extend towards the stock room and office so thht little dam. age was done on the ^ound floor. Excellent work of the Raeford Fire Jepartinent, especially on the second call probably saved the motor com- ly buUding and possible da^iige to adjoining buildings. The first fire was di^vered short ly after the mechanical department had ceased work for the day. Fire ?j^tbujrthlng betwem the^ ceiling ol thetgarage and the Hoor bf the second floor.
